I’m cold. I mean my heat is probably set to 70 but I’ve got my Bucs hoodie pulled over my head and a previously-steaming cup of tea in my hand while I try to type with the other. You already know I’m a weenie when it comes to chilly temps, but our camping trip last weekend got down into the 30s and we’ve stayed there all week! I only have so many joggers and long sleeves. Are you dealing with some frigid January weather? Dreaming of warmer days? And learning more about neurofeedback? Huh. That took an unexpected turn…. But it’s all about Hawaii! I’m part of a summit on the big island in October, which seems far away, but is warming me up just thinking about it! If you don’t remember how into neurofeedback I’ve become over the past year, then check out these links to some of my fav ramblings and resources. But the opportunity to present this in Hawaii along some friends and other amazing colleagues is really exciting! My talk will be on, SURPRISE!!, neurofeedback! Some general stuff, specific stuff, practical stuff, and really cool, interesting research. It’s going to be a riveting 2 CEUs! But I’m really looking forward to learning more about religious and church trauma, overcoming intimate partner violence, and how to bring arts and crafts into sessions. LaDonna Carey will be there presenting too! Oh yeah, and Hawaii. I’m can't wait for some island time doing morning yoga and swimming with manta rays and what not. Don’t shiver through winter! Sit under your heated throw like me, and dream scroll and the cool things that you’ll join me for in warm, gorgeous Hawaii! Your brain (and goosebumps) will thank you. Cheers to healthy brains, Dr. B Jessica Beachkofsky, MD Your friendly, online psychiatrist! P.S. The Aloha Summit will take place from Oct 16-18 and will provide 16 of the most interesting APA approved CEUs! Join us! P.P.S. Here’s one of my favorite articles on neurofeedback! |

I have a sleep number bed. We decided to get one when I was pregnant with our first kid because, back then, I always struggled with sleep. And I think it helped (until my kid was actually born! No bed can help with that). We upgraded a few years ago and now the bed tells ME how I’m sleeping! Which is pretty hilarious because it has to be wrong. this is NOT part of my bedtime routine but it sure looks faster! Every night I get a (low) score out of 100. My high score? It was while I was on...
This holiday season feels weird to me. I've been trying to figure out why, but I'm still not really sure! A lot of people may feel bad at a certain time, or in a certain place, and not really know what's going on. In some cases, it's due to the process of interoception which is one of my very favorite concepts to explain to patients!! This is where the body is taking in all the data it gets from the environment outside AND internally and then decides what to do next. In the context of this...
A gorgeous Charlize Theron is walking through the water along a sandy beach wearing a gauzy, sequined dress wrap thing. It's very sexy. There are almost no words spoken. J'adore by Dior.... sigh. Years ago (this was a tv ad from 2016!!) I asked for perfume for Christmas. Which was silly of me because I was in the military and worked in a hospital ward. NO perfume allowed! And with 2 tiny monsters at home it's not like we were going out anywhere that sweatpants or my camouflage uniform wasn't...
