”Okay can you please run that by me again Dr. Notsogoodwithconsciouspatients?” “I mean, I need you to come see my patient. She’s crying. I think she’s really sad. Maybe she’s depressed or something.” “Did you ask her?“ “Uh……” “What’s the clinical question here?” “Come on, dude! It’s 3am! Can’t you just come and talk to her??” I mean, yes, of course I could. And since I was a resident on psych consults, I did. Because I was already rudely awoken by someone on ortho who had a “scary” crying patient. Eye rolls aside, I want people to feel better! Just like you do! And that’s why we’re here doing this mental health thing.
Actually, no, not the specific patient in this case. But I did not hesitate to take the opportunity to help my confused ortho resident figure out how to come up with a better consult next time! (And he seriously owed me a coffee. Or 5.) But why should you care Reader? Well, because sometimes you have questions for your client’s prescriber and you don’t know exactly what to do. Or maybe you’ve tried reaching out before and gotten nothing but crickets. Or even worse, they got back to you but were rude (I know, some doctors can be douchey)! I can’t help with the last one but I’ve got you when it comes to getting the answers to your Clear, Clinical Questions! Today’s video was based on a request from a therapist who described a series of lacking psychiatrist responses when she needed answers to help her clients! This video has some clear ways to make sure your note gets read, your call gets scheduled, and you get what you’re looking for! Plus there are some Google Doc examples if you wanna copy them for your own use! I have a dream that together we’ll build bridges between all of us mental health professionals and the people who see and need us. (And how fun is that? Yay!) When prescribers and therapists work together we can pass the benefits of collaboration on to our clients and patients. And I want you to feel comfortable and confident reaching out when you need answers. We’re on the same side!! Let’s do this together to ensure the people we work with are getting the best results they can. Will my tips and tricks work on everyone? Nope. But they’re pretty darn good and super easy to try! And speaking of collaboration, I’m in Maryland right now meeting with a psychiatrist I mentioned regarding neurofeedback, Dr. Hogan Pesaniello. What a great time we’re having!! Can’t wait to share all the cool stuff I’m learning and how it will help the people we take care of! Cheers to healthy brains, Dr. B Jessica Beachkofsky, MD Your friendly online psychiatrist! P.S. Here’s the video link and Google doc link (make a copy!) P.P.S. Stay fabulous! Especially on Friday the 13th!! 😳 |

I'm panicked. Where's the sunscreen? Are there enough pairs of underwear? What about Benadryl? Do I need to bring bandaids? This must mean I'm stressed about packing for spring break! Which I am, because we have to leave in less than 1 hour but I'm typing this email instead of checking to see that I remembered all of the things I already know I remembered. 🙄 Ahhh.... Traveling with kids..... love the shirt! I can't bring you with me on this spring break adventure but what's the opposite? If...
I was an art ed major in college before I switched to premed. Yes, a room full of kids with paint sounded like fun to me at that point of my life (before I experienced the terror of my own children with art supplies). The summer before I changed majors, I went to study in Paris! I imagined strolling down a cobblestone street, stopping at a charming little boulangerie, and walking out with the most perfect baguette ever created by human hands. Golden. Fluffy. Maybe handed to me by a...
Construction paper hearts... Gooey Elmer’s glue... Glitter! (Remember glitter? And how it got EVERYWHERE? Apparently the environment will be dealing with it a lot longer than I will) Candy!! This is what I remember from my Valentines Days past. In my house we didn’t buy a pack of valentines from Publix. I had to MAKE mine with scissors and markers and sequins (if I was lucky). And they usually involved some of my attempts at cute rhymes. But did you realize we’re sending valentines even...
